Bluetooth SIG Adopts New 2.1+EDR Standard

Today The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) formally adopted the 2.1+EDR standard for Bluetooth.
The new version promises to bring better security and easier pairing to the Bluetooth experience. These
are both factors that are importent to ECKey. Bluetooth 2.1 devices are expected to be available towards the end of the
year. ECKey has plans to make it's products fully compatible with the new standard and to take advantage of
the new features.

Bluetooth SIG Has No Love for the iPhone

In a recent post entitled iDisappointment, Foley expressed his, well, disappointment with what he characterizes as Apple's purposeful crippling of Bluetooth on its new iPhone. Fortunately ECKey has been designed to avoid these issues, but for other applications it can be very frustrating.

Bluetooth SIG
Bluetooth SIG has recently joined with Wibree to provide ultra low power capability to Bluetooth. This will open up the application of Bluetooth to battery powered monitoring, home automation, watches, healthcare and many more active RFID type situation. This move will squeeze the market share of Zigbee, MiWi and other low power active RF solutions.
