Bluetooth Market
Mobile cell phones are a necessary and standard accessory for everyone today. According to the mobileYouth 2005 92% of Americans aged 5-14 years own a mobile phone and spend more money on their phones than cigarettes, music CDs and sweets.
The average age that a child in the UK obtains their first mobile phone is now just 8 years old. Mobile phones are embedded in today's life styles. At the Accenture Global Convergence Forum 2005 Guy Laurence of Vodafone Group Global stated that
"The adoption curve of mobile phones has far outstripped that of the PC and the television, and the growth of the mobile is a phenomenon unlikely to be repeated in our lifetimes."
Mobile phones can surf the internet, send and receive emails, play games and music, take and send photos and videos, be your credit card, address book, diary, alarm and even your GPS. Mobile phones are replacing the wallet as the fundamental item people carry with them today. With ECKey Bluetooth solutions, mobile phones can now be your keys for your house, apartment, hotel, or office building.
Bluetooth is a wireless communication standard started in 1998 by Ericsson, Nokia, Intel, IBM and Toshiba. By the end of 2005 Bluetooth was available in more than 450 million devices around the world including 200 million mobile phones. According to Gartner in 2006 60% of mobile phones sold in Europe will have Bluetooth and this will rise to 90% by 2008. Every one of these devices has the potential to be a secure key for one of the ECKey's locking solutions.
ECKey has developed a range of locks that enables Bluetooth mobile phones (or Personal Digital Assistants) to be a key. After a one off registration of the mobile device, its mere presence (tuneable from 1-10meters) to function as a key. Walking away will lock the door behind you. There are no buttons to push, no keys to find, you don't even need to take your phone out of your pocket. ECKey identifies the mobile phone securely using its unique Bluetooth address and a secure encryption method.
The locks can be battery or mains powered, integrated into your existing building security system or standalone. They can control doors, lifts, gates or garages in homes, offices, clubs, societies or apartments. They work with standard Bluetooth mobile phones (or Personal Digital Assistants) without any installation or configuration beyond the user definable PIN. A Bluetooth Personal Digital Assistant or laptop can configure a range of options on the lock including: passage, privacy or deadlock mode; PIN change; master reset; temporary access or delete/disable a device.
Mobile cell phones are NOW the next generation of keys for locking.
